"My first encounter with Bob Ampudia Whitt was almost a half a century ago. I was Director General of an Advertising Agency and Bob was peddling space for his magazine. The magazine was a major publication in Latin America with political and editorial strength above other “foreign” and local publications.

It was my business to receive individuals such as this young man who were so well connected it was almost a duty to exchange commercial, political and social information to be filed away and used at the right time. I discovered an interesting, albeit relentless yet entertaining individual. He was my kind of person and we became close and fast friends. He cut quite a figure when we were young, always careful with his gastronomic favorites that would not sidetrack his athletic physical appearance. Yes, he was vain but with good reason. He dressed like a dandy and was well known in Mexico City’s nightlife.
